HOW ARE YOUR ZINC LEVELS?

Allegedly, Casanova was a big fan of consuming zinc-rich food on a daily basis. He believed (or someone likely mentioned to him) that it put ‘lead in his pencil’!! Eating zinc-rich foods helped him ensure good levels of testosterone which plays a vital role in sexual libido - can’t really argue with that!

I am not so sure that he partook of some of the foods which are extremely good sources of zinc (eg. spinach, asparagus, mushrooms, beans, lentils, peas, nuts, seeds, yoghurt, kefir, quinoa (he possibly wasn’t too familiar with that one!) but beef, lamb, turkey, shrimp, oysters may have featured in his diet on a regular basis.

Of greater importance right now is that one of the major signs that we may have contracted Covid-19 is our loss of taste and smell and that tends to mean that our immune system is already compromised and our zinc levels may well be somewhat depleted despite our best efforts. Even mild to moderate degrees of zinc deficiency can impair the natural killer cell activity, encourage elevated inflammatory responses and dull our immune system to the extent of making us more susceptible to any virus. So what can we do both in the short and longer term?

Endeavour to get those foods mentioned above into our diet on a daily basis! Here are a few of my soups and dishes which should give you the best possible chance… and the very best of luck!
